“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
– Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Perhaps the most iconic line from the I Have a Dream speech. What does it mean? More importantly, what does it mean in the face of fascism?
Over the past weekend, the second Press Secretary of the 45th Administration of the United States was denied entrance into a restaurant in Lexington, VA. You can read about that kerfuffle here, it involves a liar, the 1st amendment, ethics, and…
the content of one’s character.
One the one hand, we have the Press Secretary, a known liar, rude AF, skilled smokey eye being judged by the content of her character. She is a tool of facism. She should be shunned and shammed. That’s karma. And honestly, that’s getting off easy, comparatively speaking.
Let’s not forget that the man who said these words was MURDERED for his voice and character, you not being served dinner isn’t really on the spectrum of serious consequences. Aside from the schadenfreude, who cares if the mouth piece of deciet and ineptitude doesn’t get what she wants FOR ONCE?
Not me.
The content of the restaurant owner’s character deserves focus. She asked her staff whether they wanted to cook and serve the aforementioned devil’s mouthpiece, and they voted no. Good boss move in every sense of those words. When you listen to the people around you, you show them you value them; and when you are in a position of power and do that, you help restore some humanity.
Since the shunning, the arbiters of civility, the ever useless alt-right (and certain centrists), have decided that it is too mean.
Mean.
Ok.
She was politley asked to leave. If you think that is incivilty, surely you agree family separation is savagery?
I won’t take the troll bait, the US Government has kidnapped migrant children without plans to reunite families and Congress has their phalenges ensconced in their anal sphincter. We have decidedly bigger problems.
This is more a reminder that we should look at people’s character in relation to the issue at hand. There for sure is a wrong and right on this issue: if you lie on behalf of this administration, you are enabling and supporting it’s policies and decisions. Your character contains insurmountable flaws, you are trash. And guess what? Most people don’t like being around garbage. You made your bed, and unlike the kids at the border, you get to sleep in it at night.
I’m judging you by the content of your character.
PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A DONATION TO THE REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT CENTER FOR EDUCATION AND LEGAL SERVICES (RAICES)
According to the ACLU, ICE is going to destroy paperwork documenting their treatment of immigrants in custody – please give to your local boots on the ground immigration, refugee, or asylee charities to make a real difference in your community.
